News: Megan keeps feet on the ground but aims high

Please note: This news story may contain information that is no longer current or up to date.

Megan Brewis from Hucknall is reaching for the skies after securing her dream job at global airline support service company Swissport. The 18-year old gained the position through a specialist Swissport Academy at Nottingham College, in which she completed LeveI 2 and Level 3 Aviation Diplomas.

Megan said: “I took these courses because it has been a dream of mine since secondary school, when I went on my first flight and got my first insight into the aviation industry. I also wanted a better view of the job roles and areas of the industry, rather than just on board an aircraft.”

Megan is now based at East Midlands Airport, and is already becoming a familiar face for frequent flyers departing from or arriving back into EMA this summer.

She said: “The job is going great. I’m always learning something new every day. My knowledge has improved and I’ve never felt so professional in my life!”

Megan attributes some of her job success to her time at college. She said: “I absolutely loved these courses as I made amazing friends, and was tutored by the most amazing and intelligent lecturers.

“Most importantly, I gained so much knowledge of the aviation industry, which I can use to my advantage.”

Megan is one of 13 Aviation students from Nottingham College that have begun new jobs at Swissport this summer, as part of the college’s Swissport training academy.

The Nottingham College Swissport Academy has been preparing students for a career in the aviation industry since 2016, and successful students get a guaranteed interview at Swissport at the end of their course.

At the Academy students learn the skills needed for airport ground handling services while completing a qualification, and gain valuable work experience with Swissport at East Midlands Airport.
