News: Students Celebrate the Women of Nottingham

Photography students at Nottingham College have launched a unique campaign to celebrate International Women’s Day today (Thursday 8 March 2018).
The project, called “Women in Nottingham”, will take the form of a digital presentation consisting of 100 photos of local women taken by the students.
Premium out of home media owner Ocean Outdoor will showcase the images on their full motion screen which dominates the entrance to the Intu Victoria Centre. One image will be shown for ten seconds per minute throughout the day.
There will be a further presentation of the images in the bar area of the Broadway Cinema in the evening (7.00pm onwards)
Models who agreed to be photographed by the Foundation Degree course students include women from local business owners, Annie Spaziano from Annie’s Burger Shack, to Olympic gymnast sisters Becky and Ellie Downie as well as college staff, friends and family and even fellow students.
The 100 images relate directly to the hundred-year anniversary since the suffragettes won the right for women to vote in this country.
Nottingham College Photography lecturer Matt Bunn, said: “On the back of recent world events and subsequent marches and protests, students came up with the idea to celebrate the female population. We have decided to concentrate on the women of Nottingham as it is where we are based and to celebrate the diversity, skills and attributes of women who live in a community at any one time. Women’s rights and the fight for equality is in the news a great deal at present and this project is a positive way to promote the impact that women have on all of our lives.”
