News: Talented students shine at Young Creative Awards

Please note: This news story may contain information that is no longer current or up to date.

Creative students from Nottingham College are celebrating after winning Fashion and Textiles, Photography, Graphic Design, Film, Music, and Architecture and Design categories at this year’s Nottingham Young Creative Awards.

Held at Nottingham Playhouse on 23rd May, the awards give young people across the city the chance to step into the limelight and be recognised for their creative talents. It’s the tenth anniversary of the awards, which saw a record number of entries – over 600 across 11 categories. Winners received a cash prize as well as mentoring opportunities and support from creative businesses.

Emma Price, 20, won the Photography 19-24 category, with her work entitled ‘Yellow Painted Walls’. She said: “My piece explored the relationship between myself and my environment. I photographed my kitchen as it's always messy and it's something I get very insecure about, so I decided to try and find beauty within the mess.

“Winning was totally unexpected. There were so many incredibly talented photographers who had also been shortlisted. As part of winning I was offered work experience with Scene Photography and I'm excited to see what the future brings!”

Nigel Cooke, one of the trustees of One Nottingham, said: "It is about encouraging young people to be creative, but it is also about getting them to learn from and interact with each other.

"We also want to encourage young people to see it as a career.

"Over the years we have got a lot of young people connected. What we want to do is develop it so people can get work out of it and create a creative network."
