News: The Nottingham Motorshow is back!

From Japanese racing cars to pre-war classics, if you’re a fan of motors, old and new, the annual Nottingham Motorshow is a fantastic event not to be missed.

This two-day motoring extravaganza, held at the iconic Wollaton Park on the 2^nd and 3^rd June, has something for everyone to enjoy - whether you’re on the hunt for a new car or simply looking for a fun family day out.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the College has supported the event, which last year attracted more than 20,000 people! One of the visitors was car enthusiast Finlay Cregan, 18, who, as a result of speaking to our curriculum staff that day, is now studying Level 2 Automotive at our London Road campus and on track for a career in the automotive industry.



Finlay has always had an interest in cars. He remembers watching Top Gear as a kid and playing on countless racing car computer games. But the time that really sticks with him was when he visited a car dealership with his dad and they handed him a Subaru leaflet. His interest in cars, and in particular Japanese cars, has continued to grow, and now he is planning to progress to the Level 3 course in September, with the hope of going to university to study motorsport technology or engineering.

He said: “I love everything about cars; the way they look, sound and drive; but also the theory behind the way they work and the way engines have evolved and are continuing to change. I have dyslexia so the practical learning really suits me, but it also surprised me just how much I enjoy the theory side of the course. My lecturers are really encouraging and supportive so my dyslexia has never been an issue.

“I went to the Motorshow last year with my family. I was studying IT at the time so didn’t go intending to find a course, but meeting lecturers from the College that day made me realise that a career in the automotive industry is where my passion really lies. It was daunting changing the career path I was already on in IT, but I’m so pleased I took the plunge because I’m doing what I love and I’m excited for the future.”



Organised by event specialists Crowdpullers, the Motorshow brings together the very best in brand new cars, vans and motorcycles from some of the world’s leading manufacturers. Saturday is the ‘new model preview day’ and Sunday is the ‘family day’. It’s free to enter, but please note that a £6 parking charge will apply.
