Engineering

If you enjoy figuring out how things work and have a curious mind, an engineering course could be just what you’re looking for. 

Our Engineering Centre of Excellence at Highfields Science Park offers large workshops with industry-standard equipment for a range of engineering disciplines, including milling and turning (CNC and manual), plus electrical/​electronic engineering, incorporating the latest Programmable Logic Controller and robotics training rigs. Classroom technology includes AutoCAD (Computer Aided Design) and Solid Works design packages. We have also invested in 3D printing and scanning technology. 

Highfields also has dedicated workshops for fabrication and welding training. 

We work with some of the leading names in the industry, including 

St Gobain, BCM Fareva, Nottingham City homes and CEMA Limited, as well as one of the country’s leading universities, the University of Nottingham.

Our courses are designed with you in mind, and start from Level 1, with progression available through the levels up to Higher National Diploma (HND) at Level 5

We offer you a clear progression route on your journey to become a qualified engineer in one of 18 sector areas, with support from staff who have industry experience in their specialist area.

Civil Engineering Senior Technician - Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4)

Engineering Design and Draughtsman - Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Engineering design and draughtspersons produce designs and drawings for structures, piping, electrical systems, control and instrumentation systems and mechanical components used in industrial and commercial construction.

The broad purpose of the occupation is to produce complex high value, low volume components or assemblies in full or part, using machines, equipment or systems, to the required specification.

Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician - Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technicians covers 7 roles: Electrical Technicians; Mechanical Technicians; Control & Instrumentation Technicians; Wind Turbine Technicians Electrical System and Process Control Technicians; Electromechanical Technicians and Plant Operations Technicians.

Metal Fabricator - Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3)

The broad purpose of the occupation is to carry out metal fabrication work using things such as rolled steel joists, columns, channels, steel plate and metal sheet etc.
