Construction lecturers take part in Reserves Day

Construction lecturers Scott Elsmore and Glenn Brough came to work in their military uniforms to raise awareness of Notts Reserve Forces.

Plumbing lecturer Glenn and plastering lecturer Scott are proud Reserves, both belonging to 350 Field Squadron (EOD) Royal Engineers.

"This is the first time I have taken part in Reserves Day. The students I teach and my colleagues all take an active interest in me being in the Army Reserve and are always eager to hear my stories when I have been taken part in some adventurous training," said Scott.

One of those colleagues was Glenn, who decided to join up after hearing about Scott's experiences.

"Going into my 40s, I thought I was too old to join the Army Reserve, but my interest never faded," said Glenn.

"When it was confirmed that I wasn't too old to join I got in touch with 350 Field Squadron (EOD), and have been made to feel really welcome - it's keeping me young."

Head of Faculty Tracey Hutchinson explained why ncn was happy to support Reserves Day.

“We recognise the important role our Reservists play in the community," she said.

"As a College, we promote lifelong learning and employability, and Glenn and Scott are providing an excellent example to our students. Learning doesn’t always have to take place in the classroom and we encourage our students to take up as many opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills as they can."
