News: COVID-19 lockdown update (updated 4th Nov)

Please note: This news story may contain information that is no longer current or up to date.

On Saturday the Prime Minister announced plans to implement a four-week stay-at-home order starting at 00.01am on Thursday 5 November 2020 and running until Wednesday 2 December.

This second national lockdown is very different for colleges than the first one in March. The Government wants schools, colleges and universities to stay open. We are expecting the DfE to issue a short briefing asking colleges to continue operating in the same way as in October and to provide updated guidance during the week.

For now, we remain in Tier 3.

From Thursday the rules of the stay at home order are expected to allow you to leave your home for work, if you cannot work from home, and education. All college buildings will therefore remain open to students and staff and we will all work together to ensure our students can continue to receive a quality teaching and learning experience both when on campus and when learning remotely.

Tier 3 guidance states that you should try and avoid travelling into and out of a very high risk area, other than for work, education, registered childcare or youth services, to meet caring responsibilities, or as part of a longer journey. Therefore please do not attend college unless timetabled to do so or unless you have been asked to attend.

Whilst these new high alert measures may be concerning, the College would like to reassure students, parents and staff that we have in place a range of measures that are designed to keep our college community safe whilst on campus with us.

Our measures ensure that social distancing, protective face coverings and increased sanitisation points are in force across all campuses. Students are rotating between on campus and remote learning to keep the number of students on campus low and classrooms spaced at 2m distances. Where we are made aware of cases, we have effective track and trace systems in place so that we can isolate cases and take suitable precautionary measures to keep people safe.

We will continue to update these pages as and when we receive more information about local restrictions and what they mean for students and their families.

More information can be found on the Nottingham County Councils, Nottingham City Council and GOV.UK websites.
