News: Flexible help enabled Connor to complete apprenticeship during pandemic
We have been working hard to support apprentices and employers, by adapting our ways of working throughout the lockdown period.
One example of this is when Apprentice Commis Chef Connor found himself in a difficult situation recently. Our staff did everything they could to help him complete, despite him being thousands of miles away.
Connor is currently in New Zealand, and he was unfortunately unable to return to the UK to complete the last End Point Assessment of his Apprenticeship Standard. He was left with real issues over how he was going to gain his qualification.
This is where the Nottingham College team stepped in to see what they could do. Mark Saric, one of our Chef Assessor/Trainers, started making enquiries. As a result, Mark was able to arrange for Connor’s final professional discussion with an independent Assessor to happen via video chat.
We’ve always known that employers need flexible, tailored support. But Covid-19 has meant adapting to help our partners and their apprentices make the best of their current situation.
For Connor, this meant we had to really go the extra mile (virtually), but I’m pleased to say he has now completed his apprenticeship.

All the Nottingham College staff were great, and my tutor Mark in particular! He’s been great with helping me finish up my apprenticeship from out here in New Zealand.
I now plan on using my qualifications to travel the world and cook in different countries.
