Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up students have been creating some spooky effects in the run up to Halloween!

Their Lecturer set them a themed brief as part of the body art module for the Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up course.

The challenge was to research and design either a classic zombie, or a zombie look inspired by pop art. Then the students made the looks go from 2D drawings to 3D make-up looks on their volunteer models.

We spoke to two of the group, to see what it was like to practise these looks.

Louise's colourful look

Louise is 16 and she created a green and pink pop art zombie look.

Louise's model has a pink and green painted face. The design features an exposed teeth effect and jewelled beads

I used neon contrasting colours for my look, and I used gems to add a 3D effect. It’s gone quite smoothly!

I can’t wait to get the next briefs and learn techniques each term to develop my skills.

William's classic zombie look

Seventeen-year-old William would like to go into the film and TV industry.

For this project he created a classic zombie look. It features a very pale face, darkened eyes and the illusion of cuts across it.

William's model has white and dark shading, a painted exposed teeth effect, and fake wounds with fake blood

The good thing about the course at Nottingham College is that you aren’t just told what to do. You can actually choose what you want to do. So I chose a classic zombie look.

To get my 3D effects, I used shading, fake blood and tea!

On the Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up course, students learn a range of skills to prepare them to get started as professional make-up artists.

Well done to all the students!
