Hard work pays off for our A Level students

The wait was finally over this week for hundreds of Nottingham College A Level students. More than 900 eager students queued up to collect their results from the College’s High Pavement Sixth Form Academy yesterday 17th August.

Among those celebrating their success is aspiring mechanical engineer Alexandro Justin, 19, from St Anns, who is continuing his training with the College via an Apprenticeship with building services company Waterman Group. He achieved A, B, B grades in Biology, Chemistry and Business Studies. “I’m so happy, excited, grateful and pleased that I got my predicted grades. I worked hard to achieve this outcome and can honestly say that it’s true that hard work pays off!

“My Apprenticeship will give me valuable work experience, a wage, and the head start I need to get my foot through the door when it comes to the corporate world and full-time employment. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”

Amber Rhodes, 18, from Ilkeston is heading off to The University of Leeds to study Journalism with her A*, A, B grades in Media Studies, English Language and Creative Writing. She said: “I couldn’t be happier with my results! I’ve loved my time at High Pavement; it’s given me a real taste of what university life will be like and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Jacob Cardwell, 18, from Arnold, achieved A, B, B in Sociology, Geography and Art. He said: “I am ecstatic about my results which mean I will be able to pursue a career in social anthropology. I’m studying for a degree at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), which is part of the University of London, and I’m really excited about it!

“I feel that relocating is the right move for me as being in London, the melting pot of culture, is where I will learn a lot about different people from all walks of life.”

Nottingham College Vice Principal Curriculum, Yultan Mellor, said: “Results day is about celebrating the hard work and dedication our students have shown over the past two years, some of whom have had to overcome real challenges to be here.

“This is an exciting time for them as they embark on the next step of their journey; so whether that’s a higher level course at College or university, a higher or degree Apprenticeship, or employment, we wish them the very brightest of futures.”
