Please note: This news story may contain information that is no longer current or up to date.

More than 1000 people gathered together at the weekend for Nottingham College’s Higher Education (HE) Graduation Ceremony to celebrate the achievements and academic success of over 200 HE graduands.

Held at Nottingham’s prestigious Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 17th November, the special ceremony included guests of honour the Sheriff of Nottingham, Councillor Catharine Arnold and the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor Sue Saddington, who joined friends, family and supporters, to congratulate the graduates.

The ceremony opened with a procession led by Nottingham College Chief Executive, John van de Laarschot. He said:

Graduation day is a momentous occasion for our students, their families, and of course our wonderful lecturers who have guided and supported them along the way.

I felt very proud to share the stage with these hardworking and intelligent students who are ready to take the next exciting step in their lives. For some this will mean continuing in education and for others it will be the start of a new career. Whatever path they are taking, I hope they are leaving the College with plenty of fond memories and with the knowledge and skills they need to progress and succeed in the future.

Dean Saunderson - Graduate of the Year for Outstanding Achievement

Student Dean Saunderson, 23, from Gedling, graduated with a First from the BA (Hons) Digital Media Design course. He was a Faculty Award Winner and was presented with the Graduate of the Year’ accolade for Outstanding Achievement. He said:

I was really surprised to receive the awards. It was a nice feeling to have my work recognised, especially when all my friends on the course are so talented. All my hard work comes down to graduation day, so it’s a really special day for me.

I have autism, but I don’t let it get in the way, in fact I think it helps me creatively because I see things in a slightly different way. Photography is my passion but thanks to this course I’ve also come to love video work too. The course has given me so much self-belief — I feel like I can give anything a go now.
