News: Musical Theatre students delight an audience at St Peter’s Church for Christmas 2021
In the final weeks of our first academic term of 2021, Nottingham was treated to something special on Thursday 9th December as our Musical Theatre courses and students wowed in a Christmas Concert in St Peter’s Church – a beautiful historic venue with outstanding acoustics in the heart of Nottingham City Centre.
The evening was one filled with joy, festive cheer, songs and poetry readings. The music naturally included traditional and contemporary Christmas songs, alongside modern performances from popular musicals such as ‘Wicked’, ‘The Sound of Music and ‘Enchanted’. Students performed in groups and there were also featured solos that the students auditioned to their tutors to secure.
One of which is Kemi Stewart, a L3 Musical Theatre student who performed a gorgeous solo rendition of ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’. Of the concert she said:
“I’ve always loved to perform; I’m always singing in my room and around the house. I’ve never performed a Christmas song before until tonight. My tutors are so supportive, I had to fly out to sing at my Aunties funeral and Rebecca (my tutor) let me audition for the Christmas Concert early.”
Of the whole evening tutor Rebecca proudly shared:
Tonight, was wonderful. It was such a beautiful showcase of the talent that we’ve got on the Musical Theatre course and it’s such a great opportunity for the students to showcase that to their families. I’m feeling very proud. They sounded absolutely beautiful!
After a year or more of not being allowed to perform anywhere. It feels like they never had any time away, they are the constant professionals.
