News: Nottingham College sports students making a difference

Please note: This news story may contain information that is no longer current or up to date.

Sports students at Nottingham College had a great experience volunteering on a Primary school sports festival for schools in the Rushcliffe area on the 18th November 2021.

In total, 10 schools attended, each bringing between 3 and 10 learners that welcomed an introduction to sport activities. The festival gave these children a fun and engaging experience that could change the way they view sport and P.E. There were 8 stations with a different activity taking place at each and the schools rotated around (with a couple of rest periods) so all children got to do each activity. These ranged from football and basketball to agility and dance type activities. Each station was managed by Level 3 sport learners.

Tutor Mike Hallewell comments: The 18 level 3 students involved in the event provided a wonderful experience for the children they coached. There was a great atmosphere throughout the event and I was proud of how well they represented themselves and the college.”

Chris Ballard comments:

It was fantastic to see pupils once again participating in a fun and safe environment, engaging in range of physical activities and developing their physical literacy skills. The 10 schools attending all reported how much fun and enjoyment their pupils had, whilst reporting how confidence and self-esteem levels had been raised amongst their pupils. The event could not take place without a fantastic team of deliverers in the shape of sports leaders from Nottingham College who provided a wonderful experience for the pupils with their endless amounts of energy, coaching and support.’

Second year student Norbert Kruszinski said: it was great to get the opportunity to do some coaching after the last year of Covid. The kids were really enthusiastic and everyone enjoyed the day.”

This is one of many of the exciting events that Nottingham College get involved in, providing a great experience for our sports leaders but also making a significant impact on our local community. The Fast Track Sport Academy is a new initiative at the college and is already proving to be a massive success for our students, our staff and Fast Track partners.
