News: Nottingham College students captain East Mids team at sporting final
Two Nottingham College Sport students are captaining the East Midlands team at the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport National Championships this weekend (26-28 April). Alex Fray and Jessica Widdowson are both studying towards a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching at Nottingham College.
In total, five students from Nottingham College are representing our region.
The students are competing in various events including: cross country, squash, table tennis and hockey. They come from a range of courses including Sport, Engineering, Media and A Levels, and are up against stiff competition from across the UK. Nineteen-year-old Alex is competing in the squash competition alongside his Captain role.
To be selected as men’s captain for the East Midlands for a second year in a row is a huge and unexpected honour.
It’s a great weekend of sport and I’m sure the team will again do the East Midlands proud!
Alex Fray — Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching
Jessica is competing in the table tennis competition.
It’s an honour for me to be selected as a captain. This will be my third year competing, which I am so happy about. The National Finals is my favourite weekend of the year.
Jessica Widdowson — Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching
Special mention goes to fellow student Megan who qualified for the finals, but isn’t able to compete as she is running the London Marathon!
