News: Take the confusion out of clearing with our top tips

From 6 July – 20 October, you can apply for a course using Clearing if you’re not already holding an offer from a university or college, the course still has places and you have your results.

Going through clearing and trying to find a university level place can be stressful, but it is important not to panic - there are lots of options available. Take a look at our top tips for taking the confusion out of clearing.

It is important to stay as calm as you can and remember you’re not alone! Every year thousands of students find a university level place through clearing, so there are lots of people in the same boat as you!

2. Do your research – and not just the course you want to study!

Although it can be tempting to make a snap decision, it is important to do you research as you need to ensure you will be comfortable with studying at your chosen college or university for a number of years.

Your research needs to look beyond the course so look up things such as student satisfaction, facilities at your college or university, and the local area.

Did you know…

Nottingham College has the highest student satisfaction rate of colleges in the East Midlands (2018/19 National Student Survey).

The latest Graduate Outcomes Survey showed that 94% of Nottingham College HE students were in employment or further study within 15 months of finishing their course!

3. Have your key information to hand.

Everyone forgets information under pressure, so before calling the clearing hotline it’s a good idea to write down all your personal information, UCAS details, results and your chosen course so it’s easy to rattle off when you are on the phone.

4. Make the call

Find a quiet place to call the clearing hotline for your chosen institution – The Nottingham College clearing hotline number is 0115 838 0610 and we have places left on lots of university level courses.

It’s important you make the call yourself and have a pen and paper to hand so you can write down key information.

5. Log into UCAS to confirm your choices.

Once you have spoken to your chosen college or university they will normally give you a time period, usually 12-48 hours for which their offer is valid so remember to log onto UCAS and enter your clearing choice as soon as you can.

Don’t miss out on your place at Nottingham College this September! Get in touch as soon as you have your results and secure your university level place through clearing.
