News: Teenager’s hair provides much needed funds for sick young people

Please note: This news story may contain information that is no longer current or up to date.

A 16 year old girl has had half of her hair cut off at our Your Look Salon on Wheeler Gate – all in aid of charity!

Dani Jakeman, the daughter of a regular salon client had 12 inches of her 24 inch hair chopped last December (2017), as she wanted to raise money for children’s cause, The Little Princess Trust.

The good will charity exists to provide real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24 across the UK and Ireland, who have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

Dani, who is from St Ann’s in Nottingham, recently booked the salon with our popular stylist Jordan Davies to cut her long hair because she had a strong desire to support the good cause, which gives away thousands of wigs each year.

Despite losing such a large amount of hair, which was a somewhat emotional experience for her, Dani left the salon with a huge smile on her face after having it straightened and styled in a way she really liked.

Speaking of her new look, Dani said:

“Over the years, I have watched many programmes of children who have suffered from cancer and that have lost their hair and it made me want to help.

“As much as I was a bit apprehensive and even scared to have so much of my hair cut off, I absolutely love my new style, which is a new look for me just before and into 2018!

“Not only did I leave the salon knowing that I’ve lost a lot of my hair for a good reason but I’m also leaving with a brand new hair style, which I really love. The friendly, professional staff here at the salon helped make the whole experience a lot easier for me!”

The Little Princess Trust prefer around 12 inches of hair to be donated because at least four inches of hair is cut off in the wig making process. Once hair is cut off, donators need to send off the hair with a form to fill in and then send it off with their hair to the charity.

Kirsty Layton, the Your Look Salon Co-ordinator is extremely pleased that the salon was able to cut Dani’s hair for such a great cause.

She said:

“It is such a fantastic and truly selfless thing for Dani to do for The Little Princess Trust and we here at the salon feel very privileged that we were able to facilitate and support such an important and special occasion.

“Raising such a huge amount of money for the charity will go a long way towards making a huge difference to the lives of the millions of people who have lost their hair through no fault of their own.”

So far, Dani’s kind-hearted gesture has raised £115 from supportive people who have donated to the special cause via her Facebook Page.
