The future’s looking bright for our students

To prepare students for life after college, we’re gearing up forYour Future, a careers event which will see more than 300 student workshops taking place throughout the week (20th-24th February), a host of inspiring guest speakers and the chance for students to network with potential employers.

Organisations attending include: NHS, Nottinghamshire Police, Royal Society for Chemistry, Nottingham Contemporary gallery, PDSA, Nottingham Forest in the Community, Fujitsu, and Skanska construction.

On day three (Wednesday 22nd February) of the event, the College is set to welcome more than 300 guests from four of our city schools - NUSA, The Bulwell Academy, The Nottingham Free School and The Nottingham Emmanuel School – to experience a special STEM Day (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The day will include a hands-on workshop from Exotic Zoo about animal science and zoology careers, where students with get the chance to handle creatures such as snakes, armadillos and meerkats. Students will also have the opportunity to step inside a 360 degree immersive theatre, a mobile planetarium which explores a range of environmental issues – from increased global temperature to extreme meteorological events. There’s also the chance to learn about coding with FUZE and science of the human body with our Medical Mavericks show!

ncn Head of Student Services and event organiser, Helen Bird, said: “We’ve received such a fantastic response from local businesses and organisations, who have all been so generous with their time and support for this event.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to engage with the experts, find out more about their dream career and develop their employability skills. We understand how competitive the job market can be so providing our students with these all important industry links is invaluable.”

We’re also putting on specific events for different courses, including:

•    Higher Education Fair at High Pavement
•    Health and Care Career Day at Basford Hall
•    Inspirational talks from ncn alumni

Check out this short video of James O'Reilly, a former ncn student who has set up his own company 'Think Big Developments'. James and his colleagues will be at Your Future all week to share their experiences of the world of work.

To book onto a workshop, visit the student portal where you’ll find a full list of events.

Thanks to our event sponsor, Touch Design.
