Your Induction

Nottingham College believes in changing lives through excellence in education and employment.

We are ambitious for our city and are committed to creating a high quality and distinctive beacon for education and training, not just for the 30,000 or so students and customers of the college, but for our staff too.

In joining us at Nottingham College you are joining us on a journey and your skills and talents, coupled with your commitment and passion to deliver a truly outstanding service, will be instrumental in setting us apart from other colleges and educational institutions.

When you join we are committed to providing you with a seamless transition into college life. We are committed to ensuring all new colleagues receive a supportive induction experience starting with pre-employment on-boarding, orientation and successful team integration.

On your first day, your manager will discuss your induction programme with you and you will receive a handy passport booklet which will become the go-to document to help you settle into your new role. Your offer of employment letter will include the date of our Warm Welcome to Nottingham College’ event, an essential element of your probation and an opportunity to meet other new colleagues. At your two-month probationary review, you and your manager will be able to use your passport booklet to feel assured all elements have been covered.

Our passport follows the following stages:

1. Getting ready to join Nottingham College

You’ll be invited to a meeting with our HR team to which you’ll need to bring some important documentation such as your proof of your right to work in the UK and any certificates of academic and professional qualifications.

We will ask you to complete a short occupational health questionnaire and complete a full DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. You’ll also complete some vital online safeguarding training to help ease you into a college environment.

Finally we’ll discuss pay and our pensions information with you and any information related to travelling to and from work and around our campuses.

2. Welcome to Nottingham College

Here you will cover everything you can expect on your first day including access to IT systems, office and campus orientation, key health and safety processes and procedures and our mandatory training requirements.

3. Settling in

Here we’ll help you settle in by introducing you to key colleagues within and outside of your team. We’ll show you how to create your staff profile and we’ll help you to set up your workstation to ensure it is optimum and your working environment is conducive to effective and safe working.

We’ll talk more about your probationary period and about the staff development opportunities available to you.

4. Employee benefits

We will also introduce you to resources that will help you to comply with important legislation such as GDPR.

From here we will take your lead. Let us know what else you need to help you becoming an active member of our college community and we will do what we can to ensure you can fulfil your potential as a teacher, member of our professional services or a manager.
