Administration Apprentice

Job description

John Fernley College has an exciting opportunity for a School Reception/Administration Apprentice. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working in a school environment and gaining a Level 3 apprenticeship in Business Administration delivered by Nottingham College.

The role of School Reception/Administrator Apprentice will include the following tasks:

  • Communicate and liaise with parents/guardians, staff, students and visitors to the school
  • Provide routine clerical support e.g. photocopying, filing, emailing, sort and distribute mail daily
  • To support the reprographics needs across the school (e.g printing, laminating, stapling), where appropriate
  • Answering emails and telephone messages, triaging all queries, where appropriate
  • Maintain manual and computerised records/management information systems
  • Undertake typing, word-processing and other IT based tasks
  • Supporting the day-to-day function of student services, e.g. distribution of bus tickets, ID passes
  • Complete other general office duties as they arise
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school. And such other duties as are within the scope of the spirit of the job purpose, the title of the post and its grading

The remuneration package includes a competitive salary, contributory public-sector pension scheme and a generous annual leave entitlement:

  • Actual Salary £7,071.63 per annum in the first year (£4.30 per hour - National Minimum Wage for Apprentices) -rising in the second year to age related National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage).
  • Local Government Pension Scheme membership
  • £5.44 weeks paid holiday entitlement rising to 6.44 weeks after 5 years' continuous service

  • Willingness to work flexibly, travelling to various locations and working extra hours as necessary to meet the needs of the Trust
  • Good level of IT skills including Outlook and Office, including Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of GDPR/Data Protection legislation
  • Knowledge of working in a confidential environment
  • Experience of using a database to input and retrieve information

Qualifications required

A*-C/9-4 in maths and English or equivalent at GCSE desirable but not essential.
