Job description

Colonel Frank Seely Academy, based in Calverton are recruiting an apprentice Kitchen Assistant to join their catering team. If you have a passion to pursue a career in the hospitality and catering industry this is a fantastic opportunity to start your career.

Duties will include:

  • To assist in the general duties involved in the production and service of the school meal, break services and vending
  • To assist in the preparation and cleaning of the dining area, including movement of furniture where appropriate
  • To maintain hygiene and safety regulations for kitchen staff and self
  • To assist with any extra catering required by the school other than the school meal
  • To carry out till work or work with regard to the vending facilities as and when required

Catering Provision:

  • Assist the Catering Manager with the preparation and cooking of school meals
  • Kitchen cleaning and cleaning of equipment
  • Service of meal and washing up after meal
  • Maintenance of health & safety in the kitchen
  • Assist Catering Manager with health and safety training
  • Assist the other members of the school community with the promotion and implementation of healthy eating
  • Assist with any extra catering required by the school other than the school meal

Skills required

  • The post holder will be able to demonstrate strong organisational and team working skills
  • They will have a good general knowledge of ICT packages and demonstrate a good level of spoken and written literacy
  • Has good communication skills
  • Has excellent time keeping skills

Qualifications required

A minimum of 5 GCSE's (or equivalent) at grade D/3 or above including maths and English.

Candidate requirements

Please note that anyone under the age of 18 will only work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Any role which exceeds these hours on advert will be amended accordingly to fall in line with the legislation.

This apprenticeship is work based learning therefore most of the time you will be working at the employers address. Depending on your training you will only need to attend college in Nottingham for initial assessments, enrolment and a few other rare occasions.
