Serendipity Day Nursery is looking to recruit a keen and enthusiastic nursery assistant who wants to start a career within the childcare industry. This is an exciting role with no two days the same.

Do you have a passion to work with and support the progression of children? Are you looking for an opportunity to burst in to the childcare industry? If so this could be the ideal role for you. Working with children aged between 0-5 years you will get a great understanding of the running of the nursery.

Duties within the role include:

  • Assist with planning a programme of activities, suitable for the age range of the children following requirements of The EYFS
  • Understand that each child is an individual and have a general understanding of childcare and child development
  • Assist with the supervision of children at play (indoor and outdoor) and at mealtimes
  • Be a reliable member of the team, working cooperatively and with flexibility
  • Ensuring that the nursery is kept clean and tidy by helping to undertake routine cleaning of the environment and resources
  • Ensure that children are kept safe and when necessary follow safeguarding procedures
  • Observe each child’s progress and report achievements, looking for progression and continuity
  • Develop positive relationships with parents/carers, staff members and outside agencies
  • Assist with the creation of a stimulating and attractive environment to support children’s developmental progress
  • Support more senior staff with parent meetings, be involved in fundraising events and assist with the promotion of the nursery as required
  • Attend parent meetings, be involved in fundraising events and assist with the promotion of the nursery as required
  • Assist with the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the nursery
  • Changing nappies and feeding
  • Other general duties as and when required

Health & Safety:

  • Undertake a shared responsibility for health, safety and cleanliness throughout the nursery
  • Ensure the general cleanliness of the children at all times
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures. E.g. fire safety, security, dropping off and collection of children
  • Operate the highest standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the sleep area, nappy changing area and food surface areas
  • Assist with the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the nursery

Staff:

  • Build effective relationships with the staff team to ensure that nursery is a positive environment and duties run smoothly

Communication:

  • Ensure that you communicate effectively ad verbally on a daily basis with children, colleagues and parents
  • Develop the ability to produce written documentation in relation to the progress children make in their learning and development

General:

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Work towards being a key person carrying out all related responsibilities in building relationships with a small group of children and their families
  • To undertake any duties as reasonably requested by line management

This apprenticeship is work based therefore most of the time you will be working at the employer’s address. You will only need to attend college in Nottingham for initial assessments and once a month for day release.

Grade A* to D/9 to 3 GCSE in maths and English (or equivalent).

Candidate requirements

Please note that anyone under the age of 18 will only work a maximum of 40 hours per week an 8 hours per day. Any role which exceeds these hours on advert will be amended accordingly to fall in line with the legislation.

This apprenticeship is work based learning therefore most of the time you will be working at the employer’s address. Depending on your training you will only need to attend college in Nottingham for initial assessments, enrolment and a few other rare occasions.
