Devan Chemicals is a dynamic developer, manufacturer and supplier of innovative chemical applications mainly for the textile industry. They are seeking a flexible and enthusiastic Apprentice Laboratory Technician to join their friendly team in Ambergate, Derbyshire.
The college start date for the weekly day release is schedule to start on 12/2/2021 so the successful candidate needs to have applied, been shortlisted, interviewed, selected for the role and commenced employment in advance of that date in order to be enrolled and start attending college.
The role described below is what you will be fully trained to carry out by the end of the apprenticeship.

The role is designed to work with and assist the laboratory manager in the day to day running of the laboratory. The right candidate will have a passion and interest in this industry and will develop into this role alongside completing the Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship Programme which is designed to train and develop apprentices in the workplace to industry standard.
Duties involved within the role:
- Receipt of samples for tests and input of associated data into laboratory database
- Preparation of all reagents and materials used in testing
- Execute chemical applications for various purposes (pre-sales, R&D testing, Quality Control, client projects) through different techniques (padding spraying, etc.) on a wide range of textiles
- Execute standardised laboratory tests according to protocol to control the performance characteristics of textile substrates and to conform them to health and safety regulations
- Format test and application reports, with the use of templates, to share the results internally and externally
- Offer support to sales and clients (indirectly)
- Perform general administration duties

Minimum qualifications required are A*-C/9-4 GCSE in maths and English (or Functional Skills Level 2 equivalent) and GCSE min grade C/4 in a Science subject or L2 in Science.
Please note that anyone under the age of 18 will only work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Any role which exceeds these hours on advert will be amended accordingly to fall in line with the legislation.

This apprenticeship is work based learning therefore most of the time you will be working at the employers address. You will need to attend college in Nottingham for initial assessments, enrolment and once a week for day release which is due to commence 12/2/2021 in Nottingham City Centre
Candidate must be able to travel to the workplace according to working hours.
