We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a hardworking and career-minded candidate to join our successful team.

This role allows you to develop the technical skills necessary to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, maintaining quality and safety standards.

During this apprenticeship you will learn:

  • Program CNC machines using CAD and CAM software
  • Interpreting technical drawings
  • Select and set up appropriate tools, adjust cutting speeds, and maintain tolerance levels
  • Monitor processes and adjust for precision and quality
  • Inspect finished parts with precision measuring instruments to ensure adherence to standards
  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, including tool changes and basic repairs
  • Operate various 3, 4 and 5-axis milling machines


  • Genuine interest in engineering and a strong willingness to learn
  • Strong work ethic, motivation, and a positive attitude
  • High motivation for the engineering/manufacturing environment
  • Ability to follow instructions and diagrams accurately
  • Good eye for detail and strong problem-solving abilities
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • GCSE maths and English Grade C or 4 or above

Hemlock Engineering specialise in the high-speed CNC machining of quality precision milled parts in aluminium, non-ferrous metal or plastic, though we have the capability to machine any type of material. We and our sister company HPC Services Ltd are committed to providing a complete milling and turning service using the latest technology with management of the entire component supply chain, including anodising, plating and stockholding if required. With a total of 45 CNC machines we are one of the largest sub-contractors in the East Midlands.
