Course outline

This course is perfect if you like science and want to explore the various science-related careers open to you in the future.

You’ll learn about:

  • Biology and nature
  • Healthy living and the human body
  • An introduction to forensics and using scientific equipment
  • Making chemical products
  • Measuring waves used in technology

You can expect to study in our modern laboratories with friendly and knowledgeable tutors. You’ll complete a portfolio of work that demonstrates your expanding knowledge of science and you’ll get to progress your literacy and numeracy skills whilst gaining a qualification to recognise your achievement.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 3-1, including English Language and Maths at grades 3-1, or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification. With this you will be asked to sit an initial assessment and this must show that you are ready to study English and Maths at Level 1. If your results are lower than this, don't worry, we'll find the right course for you.

This course is for students aged 16-18.

Progression

Choose to follow with further study at Nottingham College on our Level 2 Applied Science course, or choose to specialise further into one of our other sciencerelated Level 2 options. After then completing a Level 3 course you can progress towards a career as a nurse, occupational therapist, forensics officer, paramedic or lab technician, for example.
