Course outline

This course is perfect if you are aged 19+ and want the techniques needed to take consistently high-quality photographs, as well as getting the skills and insight necessary for a career in the exciting world of photography or a related industry.

You’ll learn commercial and artistic photographic practice, through project work, gaining an introduction to professional practice and investigating progression routes and opportunities. The course culminates in a final major project and you will showcase your talent in a public exhibition.

Entry requirements

You must be aged 19 or over to apply for this course.

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9–4 (A*–C), including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grades 9–4 (A*–C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths, or a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and Maths GCSE grades 9–4 (A*–C).

Teaching & assessment

You can expect to be assessed through coursework that is continuously reviewed and monitored and includes marking and moderation by external verifiers.

Progression

Choose to follow with a range of higher education courses or employment, or a foundation degree in Photography Practice and top-up degrees in Art & Design and Digital Media Design at Nottingham College.

Additional information

You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of your Access to HE course. Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

If you progress on to degree level study and complete a full degree, Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances you owe. This means you do not have to repay it.

Subject to eligibility you may be able to study this course for free, funded through the Adult Education Budget. Upon receipt of your application, we will assess your eligibility and advise you of your next steps.
