Entry requirements

You'll need

  • 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 (A*-C), including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grade 9-4 (A*-C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths; or
  • A relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and Maths GCSE grades 9-4 (A*-C)

You will also need to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.


The qualification will be assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.


You can progress to the Level 4 HNC in Adult Care or the Level 5 HND. You may also progress onto qualifications for management or lead practitioner roles in adult care, or to specialist qualifications reflecting the context in which they work.

Alternatively, you can progress into employment in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings within job roles such as:

  • Senior Care Support Worker
  • Lead Personal Assistant
