This qualification is ideal if you plan to work in an ICT support role in public or private sector organisations. You’ll build on your existing IT skills and we’ll get you industry-ready!

You will develop and demonstrate skills and knowledge within a workplace to achieve a Diploma in IT Professional Competence and an Award in IT Principles.

A significant amount of on-the-job training and assessment is undertaken in your workplace. Alternatively workshops can be scheduled at work or at College.

This is a demanding, but interesting and enjoyable course in which you’ll gain valuable workplace experience in an administrative role.

Most jobs in this sector are office-based with a typical 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday working week.

18 months

Entry requirements
  • You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job but we can assist you in finding a placement.
  • You will also need 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C/9 to 4 or equivalent including English Language, Maths and ICT. Some employers may require additional qualifications depending on the role.

Adults who are aged 19+ with appropriate industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

All applicants will be required to undertake an assessment in English, maths and ICT prior to enrolling.

Assessment

You will develop an electronic portfolio of evidence against the requirements of the qualification. Evidence for the portfolio can be generated by observation in your workplace, witness testimonies, case studies or personal accounts of events. Online tests and assignments may be used to confirm your knowledge and understanding.

Progression
  • A career in IT, including roles such as an ICT systems manager or other ICT professional
