Apprenticeship outline

If you’re keen to kick-start your career in the sport and leisure industry while earning a wage, this programme could be just what you’re looking for.

The majority of this course will be carried out within the workplace. This could be within a school, or coaching sport in an educational environment. Your classes will be delivered at the college.

The course consists of:

  • NVQ Level 3 (Physical Education and School Sport)
  • Level 3 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
  • Other industry/coaching qualifications as directed by the employer

Framework/standard

Supporting Teaching and Learning in Physical Education and School Sport - Supporting Teaching and Learning in Physical Education and School Sport - Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Duration

12-18 months

Level Level 3
Entry requirements
  • You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job but we can assist you in finding a placement.
  • You will also need 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C/9 to 4 or equivalent in English Language and Maths. Some employers may require additional qualifications depending on the role.

Adults who are aged 19+ with appropriate industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

All applicants will be required to undertake an assessment in English and maths prior to enrolling.

Assessment

You will be regularly assessed in the workplace and will produce an e-portfolio of evidence to show your understanding of the knowledge required. Assessments will include a combination of practical observations, verbal discussions, written assignments and case studies.

Progression

On completion you may secure a permanent position with your employer. If you wish to continue studying you will need good tutor and employer recommendations. It is possible to progress onto one of the following:

  • Foundation Degree/Degree in Sports Coaching or a related subject
  • YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training
Additional information

You are expected to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
