Apprenticeship outline

On this course you’ll learn the skills needed for a career in bricklaying while earning a wage.

This course is for those employed in the construction industry as a bricklayer. You will come into College one day a week, to complete the underpinning knowledge and portfolio building to compile the evidence you need for your qualifications.

The apprenticeship is made up of the following elements:

  • NVQ 2 in Bricklaying
  • Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying
  • Employment rights and responsibilities
  • Personal learning and thinking skills

You will also study English and maths.

Duration

18 - 24 months

Level Level 2
Entry requirements
  • You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week as a bricklayer.
  • You will also need GCSEs at grades A* to D/9 to 3 or equivalent in English Language and Maths. Some employers may require additional qualifications depending on the role.

Adults who are aged 19+ with appropriate industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

All applicants will be required to undertake an assessment in English and maths prior to enrolling.

Assessment

Each unit is continually assessed. You will present evidence of competence via practical assessments and the production of a personal portfolio.

Additional information

You will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment at all times during your placement and at College when using any tools/machinery.
