Apprenticeship outline

As a food production and cooking apprentice you will learn how to produce food for customers. You will be responsible for cooking a range of dishes, using a variety of different methods and presenting them in an appealing way.

You’ll cover employment rights and responsibilities, as well as other industry qualifications as directed by the employer.

You could also be ordering stock and helping to organise the stock room.

Once a month you will visit our training kitchen in Nottingham on day release, to undertake skills sessions, working alongside our highly trained staff.

You will also study English and maths.*

English and maths - skills for your future
Employers and universities really value skills in English and maths. So, building on your existing knowledge of these subjects will help you prepare for your future career or further study. *If you are aged 16-18 and have not yet achieved GCSE English Language and Maths at grade C or above/grade 4 or above don’t worry - we’ll support you with the right lessons to increase your confidence in these essential employability skills.

Enterprise skills
Our courses are designed to help you achieve your ambitions, whether you plan to go on to a higher level of study or start a career. Employability and study skills will be included to help you develop the broad skills required by industry. They will vary from course to course and are designed to meet local and national employer needs.

Qualification
  • Level 2 Apprenticeship in Food Production and Cooking, incorporating:


    • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Food Production and Cooking
    • Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles.
Duration

12 months

Entry requirements
  • You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job but we can assist you in finding a placement.
  • You will also need GCSEs at grades A* to D/9 to 3 or equivalent in English Language and maths, however some employers may require additional qualifications depending on the role.

Adults who are aged 19+ with appropriate industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

All applicants will be required to undertake an assessment in English and maths prior to enrolling.

Teaching & assessment

Each unit is continually assessed. You will be assessed in the workplace by a fully qualified assessor. You’ll undertake practical assessments and produce a personal portfolio of evidence.
