Course outline
This exciting new course aims to meet the needs of future artists and designers in the contemporary creative industries.
There is an emphasis on employability skills and the knowledge essential for students with entrepreneurial, employment or academic aspirations. Programme content is designed to be appropriate for entry to or progression within the creative sector and to enable progress to higher study at Level 5 on the Higher National Diploma (HND) and Level 6 BA (Hons) top-up degree pathways.
HNC Core modules include:
- Professional Development
- Contextual Studies
- Individual Project
- Techniques and Processes
Specialised mandatory units:
- Typography
- Graphic Design Practices
Specialist optional units:
- Select one or two units to make up to 120 credits of study

Other combinations of qualifications and experience will also be considered, as will Level 3 qualifications not currently listed on the UCAS tariff. For creative courses you would usually need a qualification in a relevant subject area. We would expect students to be working at (or to demonstrate competency at) Level 2 or above in English/literacy and maths/numeracy. Mature applicants with relevant professional experience and/or qualifications are welcome to apply. |

Progression | From the HNC, you can progress to the Level 5 HND in Art and Design (subject to validation), and then our BA (Hons) Art and Design top-up degree (awarded by Nottingham Trent University) or similar. Art and design graduates are very much in demand in the creative arts and associated industries, such as marketing, publishing, branding, retail merchandising, design agencies and community arts organisations. |
