Course outline

This course is perfect if you want to make and decorate cakes for family and friends or have your own business and need help to get you on your way to reaching your goals.

Learn how to make bakes for your family and friends and decorate cakes of your choice using basic buttercream techniques. You will also learn how to make piped and sugarpaste flowers that transform ordinary cakes and cupcakes into beautiful designs.

You can expect to learn a variety of baking, decoration and employability skills.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but you must have a good standard of written and spoken English.

All students are required to complete a mandatory course workbook (Unique Learning Programme) each week, with the support of their course tutor.

Teaching & assessment

Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will be required to complete a short workbook and encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of this course.

Progression

The course tutor can discuss appropriate opportunities if you wish to further your learning in this subject area.

Information will be made available about other courses at Nottingham College and you will have the opportunity to access external Careers Guidance to aid their your steps.

Additional information

You will be required to buy the items you need for the course.

Please bring any tools and equipment you may already have, as well as sugarpaste/fondant and something to take your creations home in.
