Course outline

This course will give an introduction to cake decorating, using a variety of techniques to create a professional finish to your cakes to wow family and friends.

Learn how to make flowers, modelling piping with butter cream on cup cakes and cover cake with sugar paste and model roses to put on the cake.

There are no formal entry requirements.

Teaching & assessment

Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will complete a short course workbook with the help of the tutor and will be encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of this course.


Your tutor will discuss progression opportunities with you at the final session as part of the course evaluation. These may include other community courses, employability skills courses, volunteering opportunities and progression onto other Nottingham College courses.

Additional information

You will need to bring your own tools and materials and an apron. You will need one cake for this course. The cost for materials and equipment is usually around £50 for the whole course, but it depends on the individual learner how much you want to spend.
