Course outline

This course will enhance your skills in decorating cakes.

On this course you will be expanding your knowledge and learning new or adapting techniques you might already know.

The NCFE Award Creative Crafts Level 1 consists of 3 modules:

  • Exploring tools and materials
  • Researching and planning a project
  • Completing an individual project of your choice.

Completing the level 1 course will give you sound a basis for further learning in your chose craft area.

Entry requirements

The course is open to beginners or those with experience.

Teaching & assessment

Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback and you will complete the NCFE workbook. You will be encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of the course.


You can progress onto other art and crafts courses at the College.

Additional information

You will need to bring your own Cake decoration tools and materials and an apron.

You will need 1- 2 cakes for this course, sometimes a dummy may be used for one of them. The cost for materials and equipment is usually around £60 for the whole course, but it depends on how much you want to spend and where you buy your equipment.
