Career Pathways

At Nottingham College, we have personalised programmes which are available to young people who are not in education, employment or training.

Our selection of courses are specially designed to help anyone in these situations, with a particular focus on supporting anyone who has left school with no qualifications or low grades.

If you choose us as a place of study, you will have the opportunity to develop personal and social skills, as well as improve qualifications in a highly supportive environment.

You will be fully encouraged along the way as each course has a dedicated tutor and includes regular one-to-one progress reviews.

The courses are individually tailored, allowing you to explore one or more work-related (known as vocational) subject areas of your choice - whilst developing employability, personal and social skills, along with improving your English and Maths.

We offer two career pathway routes. On the mixed vocational taster pathway, you will sample several industry areas and will select your own programme. You will also be able to get a brief introduction to working in areas such as care, retail, sport, business, catering, travel and tourism or construction, which will help you to find an industry that’s right for you.

Or, if you already know what area you’d like to find out more about, you can choose the specific vocational area pathway and start training for your chosen area such as sport, hair and beauty, IT or construction.

The Progress to Level 2 course is aimed at students who have successfully completed a Level 1 vocational qualification but who need additional English and Maths support, before they can progress to a Level 2 course. This course provides you with the opportunity to improve your Functional Skills in English and Maths, whilst learning about employability and work skills. All work on this course is tailored to your individual career route and can also include work experience and Level 2 tasters.

Completion of these courses will enable you to progress onto a variety of course, work or training.
