Ceramics for Beginners at the Nottingham Ceramics School — Part-time
Course outline
This course is aimed at complete beginners, or those who wish to refresh the basics.
You will be guided through the main hand-building techniques of pinching, coiling, slabbing using different clay bodies as well as an introduction to throwing. Alongside this you will be taught a range of different decorative processes using coloured slips and glazing techniques.
Under the guidance and support of your tutor, the aim is for you to build a good foundation of skills and knowledge and understand the importance of safe studio practice so you gain the confidence to work independently on your own ideas.
You will be taught by experienced tutors and have access to the schools resource of equipment and tools.

Entry requirements | You must be aged 19+ and have a good standard of English as you will be required to complete a short workbook with the help of your tutor. |
Teaching & assessment | Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will be required to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of this course. |
Progression | There may be opportunities to progress onto other courses both in the community and at Nottingham College sites. The course tutor can discuss appropriate opportunities if you wish to further your learning in this subject area. |
Additional information | Students will be required to pay £20 directly to the tutor at the first class to cover clay, firing and glaze. |
