Course outline
These exciting new courses are designed to equip students with construction and the built environment skills, knowledge and the understanding necessary to achieve high performance in the global construction and the built environment sector.
There is a strong emphasis on employability skills and the knowledge essential for students with entrepreneurial, employment or academic aspirations. Programme content is designed to be appropriate for entry to or progression within the construction sector and to enable students to progress onto higher-level study.
HNC core modules:
- Individual Project (Pearson Set)
- Construction Technology
- Science and Materials
- Construction Practice and Management
Civil Engineering specialist mandatory units:
- Construction Information (Drawing, Detailing, Specification)
- Mathematics for Construction
- Principles of Structural Design
Specialist optional units:
- Select one or two units to make up to 120 credits of study

We would expect students to be working at (or to demonstrate competency at) Level 2 or above in English/literacy and maths/numeracy. Mature applicants with relevant professional experience and/or qualifications are welcome to apply. |
| Assessment | Assessment is continuous, providing a range of evidence of your learning. This may include:

| Progression | From the HNC, you can progress to the Level 5 Higher National Diploma, and then on to the second or third year of an Honours degree in a construction-related discipline (such as a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering or similar). Graduates could go on to seek work in construction and project management, quantity surveying, building surveying, site engineering and architectural technology. |
