Course outline
This creative writing course is aimed at anyone with no previous writing experience. It will enable you to develop good writing habits and ideas to stay motivated. The course focuses on developing ideas, and characters to create a great story.
On this course, you will learn to:
- Explore types of creative writing
- Generate writing ideas
- Plot a structure for a story
- Create character profiles
- Format dialogue to develop a story
You will achieve objectives by taking part in group activities, this may include online quizzes and other interactive platforms both during the session and by completing homework activities in your own time.

Entry requirements | There are no formal entry requirements but you must be aged 19+ and have a good standard of spoken and written English as you will be required tp complete a mandatory course workbook (Individual Learning Plan) each week, with the support of the course tutor. |
Teaching & assessment | Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will be required to complete a short workbook and encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of this course. |
Progression | The course tutor can discuss appropriate opportunities if you wish to further your learning in this subject area. Information will be made available about other course opportunities at Nottingham College and you will have the opportunity to access external Careers Guidance to aid their next steps. |
Additional information | You will need to have a pen and paper/notebook for writing during sessions. |
