This lively and practical course has been designed to equip you with the skills, language and knowledge needed to work at the cutting edge of the digital design industry. Its aim is to produce confident visual thinkers who are capable of producing commercially viable design work at the highest level whilst being capable of communicating and developing dynamic and original ideas and concepts.
Throughout the course you will gain a breadth of practical experience as well as the opportunity to engage with a bank of industry partners through a series of guest lectures, industry workshops and participation in industry briefs. Critique and feedback on these projects will help you realise the expectations and professional benchmarks of the industry and will form the backbone to your portfolio of work.
The course focuses on teaching core design skills, visual communication and creative processes that can be adopted in the exploration of any digital design problems. Specialist disciplines are developed in studio practice sessions, allowing you the flexibility to choose a specialist focus based on your own design interests.
These can include areas of study such as:
- Graphic Design, 3D Graphics and Branding
- Motion Graphics and Animation
- UI / UX Design
- Front-End Web Development
- Graphic 3D Games Technology
Year one modules include:
- Ideas Generation and Design Principles
- User-Centered Design
- Visual Communication
- Specialist Studio Practice
Year two offers you the chance to gain professional experience through involvement with briefs delivered by our industry partners. It also allows you the opportunity to work on developing your own professional work and portfolio. The course will culminate in the proposition and execution of your own design brief which will be displayed in an end of year show.

For creative courses you would usually need a qualification in a relevant subject area.
We would expect students to be working at (or to demonstrate competency at) Level 2 or above in English/literacy and maths/numeracy.

Mature applicants with relevant professional experience and/or qualifications are welcome to apply.
Your work will be assessed on a continuous basis.
You can expect to pursue a career in specialist areas such as graphic design, animation and games design, web design and interactive multimedia applications.
You could progress to the final stages of a related honours degree or to our BA (Hons) Digital Media Design Top-up Degree, awarded by Nottingham Trent University.
