Experimental Painting and Drawing - Part-time

Course outline

If you are interested in creative drawing practice and combining painting with a more experimental approach to using a variety of media, such as collage, print transfer, this course is for you.

Working in our well-resourced art department, you will be working on guided sessions with the support our experienced tutor to help build the knowledge and skills in painting.

Over this 10 week course you will develop new skills and techniques, responding to a range of creative tutor-led exercises. There will be an opportunity to create a sustained and developed art work in the latter part of the course. Term 1 will be focused on drawing techniques and understanding of colour, leading onto to experimental processes using paint in Term 2 and Term 3.

The course is limited to 14 spaces – due to resources.

The tutor, Denise Weston, is a practicing artist, who teaches on a part time basis in Fine Art Education both at HE and FE level. She taught in the Adult Education Department for The University of Nottingham for 8 years. She also taught on the part-time Honours Degree in Fine Art for 6 years. She has worked in the FE sector teaching Art and Design for 18 years as a part-time tutor.

There is ongoing feedback to support your progress. There is no formal assessment.


You can continue to build on skills each term on further part time courses in painting.

Additional information

Basic materials will be provided, however we recommend all students purchase their own sketchbook on the first week and we have an Art Shop on site where you can get this.
