This course is perfect if you love drawing, working to briefs and developing conceptual ideas, and you want to go onto a related foundation course or degree and/or a career in graphic design, illustration and visual communication.

You will experience using the creative design cycle – a valuable skill recognised by employers. You’ll explore the history of art and design styles and the impact of changing contemporary issues on design.

Live projects, competition, visits and links with local designers are embedded into the course to build employability skills. Work placements are promoted and supported to build your CV and progression opportunities.

  • Drawing and visual communication at the core
  • Workshops in print-making
  • Design
  • CAD (Photoshop/Illustrator)
  • Research, analysis and evaluation
  • Presentation and exhibiting

In Year 1 all UAL Level 3 students on General Art & Design, 3D Design & Architecture and Graphic Design & Illustration will experience a broad diagnostic Term 1 and be enrolled onto a General Art & Design programme, that will provide students with grounding skills and knowledge in:

  • Creative mark-making
  • Research skills
  • Digital recording and presentation
  • Analysis and evaluation and contextual awareness

All students will undertake practical workshops in 3D Design & Architecture, Graphic Design, Illustration and Fine Art, which will allow students to make improved informed choices about an area of specialism.

In Year 1 Term 2, students will select an area of specialism, with tutor assessment and guidance and will continue in this area into their Final Major Project in Year 1.

In Year 2 students will be enrolled directly into a specialist area of study:

  • General Art & Design
