Course outline

This course is perfect if you are aiming high and want a combination of A Level Maths, A Level Product Design, and a BTEC in Engineering to set you up for higher level study.

You’ll learn a combination of two A Levels and a career-related Engineering qualification. They will combine to prepare you for university and give you the unique opportunity of getting hands-on with industry-standard equipment.

You can expect a course that will encourage you to combine mathematical understanding with creative thinking, to find innovative solutions to real world problems. So you’ll be gaining skills that are essential for a career as a design engineer.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4/A*-C, including English Language at grade 9-4/A*-C and Maths at grade 9-6/A*-B.

One of your GCSEs would preferably be a design technology subject.

Assessment
  • Maths – 100% exam based assessment
  • Product design – 50% exam based assessment, 50% portfolio based assessment
  • BTEC Engineering - continuous assessment of each unit through a variety of methods such as practical assessments, online tests and producing a personal portfolio of evidence.
Progression

Choose to follow with degree-level study at Nottingham College or going on to university. Alternatively, you could consider a higher apprenticeship to give you a paid route into industry alongside a degree-level qualification.
