Course outline

Previously known as V1, this course is designed for those who maintain the quality of assessment from within an organisation or assessment centre. You’ll be able to develop your skills, gain underpinning knowledge and demonstrate competence in the workplace to help you progress in your career.

You’ll develop skills to enable you to refine and improve your teaching and learning as well as use constructive reflection in order to enhance your continuing professional development.

The course consists of the following units:

  • Unit 4: understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment
  • Unit 5: internally assure the quality of assessment

Qualification

Aim Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of the Assessment Process

Duration

Only the first 4 weeks are classroom based. The rest of the course is studied on a one-to-one basis in the workplace at variable times until the course is completed.

Entry requirements

You’ll need to be managing and monitoring a minimum of two assessors who are assessing a minimum of two candidates each undertaking an awarding organisation (QCF)† accredited qualification.

You’ll also need access to a qualified internal verifier (IV) in your own subject area and to be aged 19 or above.

Teaching & assessment

You’ll be assessed continuously over the course. Each module is assessed by assignments which include: reports; projects; essays; and case studies.

You’ll also produce a professional development portfolio which focuses on teaching practice and involves lesson observations.

Progression

If you continue to a full teaching role you could progress to the Diploma in Education and Training Level 5.
