Course outline

If you are interested in a career in health, social care or working with children and young people, this course is a great place to start. It’s part-time so you can fit it around your other work and/or life commitments while you study. You will learn the basics of working in the industry and the course will give you a platform to studying at higher level, opening up new career opportunities to you. This qualification aims to:

  • Develop your knowledge of health, social care and children and young people's settings
  • Develop your understanding of the similarities and differences between each of these settings

This course is a first step into the health and social care industry and you’ll cover different units which will give you a broad understanding of what’s involved in the careers you might be interested in, including:

  • Understanding the range of service provision and roles within the sectors
  • nderstanding the principles and values within the sectors
  • Awareness of protection and safeguarding
  • Introduction to communication
  • Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion
  • Introductory awareness of health and safety
  • Introductory awareness of person-centred support

Your tutor will always be on-hand to offer you support and guidance which will help you to make the most out of the course and succeed in your assessments.

This course is held on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.00am - 2.45pm.

Entry requirements

You'll need 4 GCSEs at grade 3-1 (D-G), including English Language and Maths OR relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification and you will also be asked to sit an Initial Assessment. Initial Assessment must show that you are ready to study English and maths at Level 1.

The course is assessed using a variety of methods including assignments, leaflets, booklets and displays.
