Course outline

This course will enable you to gain confidence whilst at the same time develop the practical and study skills to progress onto study at a higher academic level. In addition to the main qualification you will also study functional skills maths and English.

Course content includes:

  • Being organised
  • Developing a personal progression plan
  • Carrying out a scientific experiment
  • Investigating variations in plants and animals
  • Practical actions to protect the environment

Pearson BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate in Applied Science

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements however you will be required to demonstrate working at level 1 in English language and maths in an initial assessment.


You will be assessed through a variety of methods including practical observations, assignments, reports and presentations.

Units will be graded at pass, merit and distinction


There may be opportunities to progress onto further study. This will include the Pre Access to Nursing and Midwifery.

This course will be delivered over 2 days per week.
