This course is perfect if you want a course that can give you a range of technical skills and knowledge that will equip you to either go into employment or to enter a higher level course.

You’ll learn a range of units including:

  • Network and infrastructure
  • Networking concepts
  • Operating systems
  • Server administration
  • Principles of cloud computing
  • Troubleshooting networks

You can expect a largely practical course with lots of hands-on computer work.

The course will help you to understand the role of technical support in the workplace and to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to undertake this role.

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grade 9–3/A*–D, including English Language and Maths - one of English Language or Maths must be grade 9–4/A*–C. Functional Skills Level 1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 3/D and Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 4/C.

Teaching & assessment

Assessment is continuous throughout the course.

Progression

Choose to follow with a Level 3 IT course at Nottingham College, or move into a career such as end user support, helpdesk support, trainee IT support, web designer or in IT maintenance.
