This course is perfect if you want a course that can give you a range of technical skills and knowledge that will equip you to either go into employment or to enter a higher level course.

You’ll learn a range of units including:

  • introduction to digital technologies
  • Cyber security
  • Introduction to supporting users
  • Networking concepts
  • Operating systems
  • Server administration
  • Principles of cloud computing
  • Troubleshooting networks

You can expect practical elements as part of your course.

The course will help you to understand the role of technical support in the workplace and to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to undertake this role.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (A*–D), including English Language and Maths - one of English Language or Maths must be grade 9–4 (A*–C). Functional Skills Level 1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C) or above.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous throughout the course.

Progression

Following successful completion of this qualification you will be able to work in a support role dealing with systems and infrastructure and software issues or choose to follow with a Level 3 IT course at Nottingham College.
