This course is perfect if you want to develop the skills and personal qualities needed to work in IT and to help you achieve your full potential.

You’ll learn a range of units that will be relevant to a career in IT, including:

  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Graphics
  • PC systems
  • Word
  • Working in IT

You can expect many practical hands-on tasks, as well as theory, which will enable you to gain the necessary knowledge required to progress further in the field of ICT.

You will explore real jobs and careers in IT areas, giving you the chance to develop the necessary skills and explore career opportunities.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 3–1 (D–G), including English Language and Maths at grades 3–1 (D–G) or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification. You will also be asked to sit an initial assessment. The initial assessment must show that you are ready to study English and maths at Level 1. If your results are lower than this, don't worry, we will find the right course for you.

Assessment

All units will be assessed via course-work based assignments.

Progression

Choose to follow with a BTEC Level 2 Diploma for IT Practitioners (ICT Systems Support) or the BTEC Level 2 Diploma for IT Practitioners (Software Development). Future employment could include specialising in IT systems support or software development.
