Maintenance Operations (Level 2) - Full-time


Course outline

This course is perfect if you’re looking to gain a wide range of knowledge of maintenance, either because you want to work across a number of areas, or because you’ve yet to decide whether to specialise in one trade.

You’ll learn about working safely, using materials, building methods and techniques, and working with others. You’ll choose from a wide range of units covering:

  • Brickwork/masonry repairs
  • Painting and decorating
  • Small scale trade repairs
  • Wall and floor tiling repairs
  • Wood trade repairs
  • Plumbing repairs

You can expect hands-on learning to ensure you craft your skills to the best of your ability, in our construction centre at Basford.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grade 9–3/A*–D, including English Language and Maths – one of English Language or maths must be grade 9–4/A*–C. Functional Skills Level 1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 3/D and Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 4/C.


You’ll test your knowledge in both practical and written tests and cover a range of practical solutions to enable you to service and repair across the key construction area.


Choose to follow with an apprenticeship in a related field or into full-time permanent employment as a maintenance operative or technician.
