Movement and Dance for Beginners — Part-time

Course outline

The focus of this course is to to learn to create and choreograph a dance piece in a group setting.

The course is designed to allow absolute beginners to learn how to use simple movements to create a dance piece. No formal dance training is required. We will be warming our bodies up at the beginning of each session, learning basic dance technique whilst strengthening our bodies and learn how to devise simple choreography and cooling our bodies down at the end of each session.

On this course, you will learn how to use your body to tell stories through dance, simple dance techniques and how to create a dance piece from scratch.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but you must be aged 19+ and have a good standard of spoken and written English as you will be required tp complete a mandatory course workbook (Individual Learning Plan) each week, with the support of the course tutor.

Teaching & assessment

Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will be required to complete a short workbook and encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of this course.

Progression

The course tutor can discuss appropriate opportunities if you wish to further your learning in this subject area.

Additional information

Please bring a bottle of water, notebook and pen and wear comfortable clothing that you can freely move around in.
