Course outline
This course is sure to get your creative juices flowing. It will encourage you to experiment and explore the latest nail art methods and technology using the College’s state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
Whether you imagine yourself working in a busy salon, health farm, cruise liner, or becoming your own boss with your own business, this course will equip you with the relevant skills and experience to kick start your career.
The College has an established commercial nail bar on campus with real paying customers so you can brush up on your customer service skills as well as gain invaluable on-the-job experience.
You will study the following units as part of this course:
- Follow health and safety in the salon
- Working in beauty related industries
- Client care and communication
- Promote products and services to clients
- Three nail systems
All units have an assignment to complete, to assess knowledge and understanding. You will use the knowledge delivered in the sessions to complete the assignments at home and then hand in to the tutor at set weeks throughout the course.
You will build practical skills in client care/consultation, health and safety (related to nail treatments), application of all three nail systems (gel, acrylic, fiberglass). You build these skills by working on each other, then, when ready, bring in a client to be assessed on (assessments are graded pass, merit and distinction).

Entry requirements | You'll need:
Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 9-4 (A*-C) You will be interviewed and undertake a trade test and English assessment. |

This qualification may lead directly into employment in the nail industry as a nail technician in a salon or as a self employed nail technician. |
Additional information | You will be required to purchase a kit and uniform. The costs for these will be discussed at interview. |
